Jiuzhaigou (Jiuzhai Valley)

Jiuzhaigou( Jiuzhai Valley) , means nine villages valley, located in Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture , north Sichuan province, southwest China, this unique national park is filled with geological, biological and cultural jewels.

Jiuzhaigou is best known for its fabled blue and green lakes, spectacular waterfalls, series of narrow conic karst landforms and unique wildlife. it was declared a UNESCO world Heritage Site in 1992 and has also received IUCN, Man and the Biosphere and ISO 14,001 accreditations

Introduction of the sites in Jiuzhaigou park :

there are three main valleys in Jiuzhaigou National Park: Shuzheng Valley, Rize Valley and Zechawa Valley. the majority of the famed lakes and waterfalls are in the three valleys.

1, Shuzheng Valley

Heye Village : the first and the largest Tibetan village in Jiuzhai Valley National Park. behind the village is a giant pine tree , over 100 years old, with exuberant branches. It is called ” Welcome Pine”

Bonsai Shoal : altitude 2,240m

the Bonsai Shoal is a travetine beaches, on which shallow water sloly sweeps through reeds , poplars, azaleas, pines , cypresses, willows and other shrubs.it is believed that the mountain God places a wonderful bonsai collection here that exceeds the best of human art works.

Reed Lake: altitude 2140m, area over 100,000 m²

the reed lake is a semi-swamp lake with thick reeds .in spring and summer the reeds are green with an azure blue stream, like a Tibetan lady’s cloth belt. running through the lake.

Shuzheng Lakes :streching fro over 1km, with a drop of 100 meters from Shuzheng Waterfall, Shuzheng Lakes consist of 19 lakes of varied sizes, descending in terraces.

Shuzheng Village

Shuzheng Village used be one of the poorest villages in Jiuzhai Valley. since the land was not good for growing crops. Now it is the busiest village in Jiuzahig Valley , the main source of income is f rom souvenir sales. many locals operate small stores in fr ont of their homes , they also sell yak butter tea and snacks to visitors.

Rhinoceros Lake : altitude 2325m, average depth 12m, length 2km, area 200,000 m²

Rhinoceros Lake is the second largest lake in Jiuzhaigou Valley.

Shuzheng Waterfall : altitude 2,295m, width 62m-72m, length 25m

Shuzheng waterfall is a round shaped, multi-level waterfall with thousands of streams running through the stems. situated at the nOrthern end of Tiger Lake the noise of the w ater is supposed to be the roar of Tiageer Lake’s beast.

Nuorilang Waterfall ,width 320m, height 24.5m

Nuorilang Waterfall is widest travertine topped waterfall in the world. the noise of Nuorilang waterfall is impressive, in winter Nuorilang freezes creating an enormous ice curtain.

2 Rize Valley

the Virgin Forest : altitude 3,060m, a rea 54,000 m²

Jiuzhaigou Virgin Forest grow firs and spruces, shrubs such as honeysuckles, azaleas and arrow bamboo as well as thick lichens. high quantity of negative oxygen ion .

Swan Lake: altitude 2.950m, area 55,000 m² , depth 2-13m

swans are frequent visitors to Swan Lake in Jiuzhaigou , so it gets the name

Arrow Bamboo Falls : Altitude 2,618m, height 7m, width 150m

Arrow Bamboo Lake : Altitude 2,618m, depth 6m, area 170,000 m²

on the bank grow many arrow bamboo. in 2001, Chinese movie director Zhang Yimou selected Jiuzhaigou for some of the scenes of the movie: ” Hero”

Panda Lake Jiuzhaigou: altitude 2,587m, average depth 14m, area 90,000 m²

Jiuzhaigou ‘s Giant Pandas are said to drink in this lake so it gains theh name.

Five Flower Lake ( Wuhua Lake , Wuhua Hai ) : altitude 2,472m, depth 5m

the Five Flower Lake is regarded as one of the wonders of Jiuzhaigou due to its breathtaking colors, which are the result of its lakebottom travertine and colorful algae. Five Flower Lake is one of the biggest stars in Sutumn when the refections present a display of nature. the intense color combinations of the water and the forests are one reason why Jiuzhaigou is referred to as a photographer’s heaver and a painter’s nightmare.

Pearl Shoal Waterfall: altitude 2,433m, wideth 310m ,highest drop 40m

this is the most photographed waterfall in Jiuzhaigou and along with many places in the park it is a very popular place for Chinese couples to have their wedding photos taken here.

3 Zezhawa Valley

Zezhawa Valley in Jiuzhaigou stretches 18km from Nuorilang to Long Lake, the highest point of the park . the valley features overlapping high valleys, two seasonal lakes and Jiuzhaigou’s largest lake.

Zezhawa vilage: at the center of the park, there are some decorated homes that can be stopping here for a quick snack or a cup of yak butter tea.

Long Lake :altitude 3,100m, length 5km, width 600m, area 93,00 m²

Long lake is at the highest point of Jiuzhaigou , over 100m deep. the water is ink blue, the surrounding peaks are snow-capped for most of the year

4. Zharu Valley, the home to almost 40% of all the seed plant families in China, is also home to Jiuzhaigou ‘s eco-tourism program. regular tourists do not visit this valley and it is one of the most biodiverse areas of Jiuzhaigou National Park. all of the park’s 220+ bird species can be found here as well as all of the wild animal species. if you take 1-3 days hike in Zharu Valley you will spot many birds and some animals.
